Plowing through applications
I don't think anyone enjoys going through job applications. Firstly you have go through each one of them, and that takes time, then you have to make a short list, then you have to email 90% back sending a " We regret to inform you letter". I know most companies skip that part, but I think its just common courtesy to reply to everyone.
You get those who clearly should not have applied, and I wonder did you NOT read the advert? I had one from someone who had never even been on a boat, another was for someone wanting to work for a month. Then I was emailed bizarre questions, which I can handle, but what drove me mad is when people started to phone.
Even though our name was not on the advert, its not hard to find us. I didn't fare so well when a wife phones twice, nogal, to ask why hubby was unsuccessful.
The sad part of it all is that so many out there do not have jobs. I had so many over-qualified applicants, and we can only chose 1 person. Rob has narrowed it down to 4, whom he will be taking out to sea soon, to "try" out.
Watch this space and we will let you know how it goes. Ta K
