Shark diaries: September & october 2009
Dear Ultimate Animal lovers,
With blogging, and tweeting fast taking over the world, I admit that I have strayed from writing our monthly newsletters in favour of the above. I often just want to get the latest shark news or trip info “out there” to those who read our blog/tweets that, come the end of the month, I feel that its old news.
Those who are planning on visiting Cape Town during the 2010 Soccer World Cup, will be delighted to know that we have not joined the $$$ madness, and our prices will remain current. We have quite a few 2010 peak season bookings so please don’t leave your booking until the last month or so, as you may very well miss out on viewing False Bay’s spectacular breaching great white sharks.
From 1st of December, we will be changing our shop in Simon’s town, and so the next few weeks will be spent on shop fitting and possibly acquiring new staff. We have also purchased a new vehicle, and will be doing Cape Town to Simon’s town shuttle trips, and possibly peninsula trips as well.
November to May is a great time of the year to do our Blue and Mako Shark trips. This is a great adventurous trip and a perfect alternative in our summer when it’s the low season for the Great White Sharks. Our success rate is 80%. This adventurous trip takes you 15-25 miles off Cape Point. For naturalist wanting a bit of everything, then, this is a must. The moment we leave False Bay we start to see a multitude of pelagic birds including Skuas, Terns, Shearwaters, Petrels, Penguins, Gulls as well as the possibility of seeing several different species of Albatross. We very often see a variety of whales and dolphin species.
This month I will be focusing on upgrading our guest photo page on our website. Rob has also taken some very nice shark pictures and we will be making them available as well. If you have any pic’s taken from our boat, please feel free to send them our way.
For those who follow us on Facebook, twitter and our blog site, thank you for your comments and support. It’s much appreciated.
Until next time, keep on hugging a shark or two.
Fondly
Rob and Karen Lawrence
