African Shark Eco-Charters - Rob and karen Lawrence

African Shark Eco-Charters is owned and run by Rob and Karen Lawrence.

Rob does all the operational side, and Karen is behind the scenes, and is the one who “greases the wheels”.

Since 1992 Rob has been working with sharks. First in Gansbaai, and then from 1996 has specialized in leading and operating expeditions on a daily basis in beautiful False Bay.

Rob is one of the most experienced field persons involved in all areas of the white shark cage diving industry in South Africa.

Rob’s family history in False Bay goes back several generations. His family was actively involved in trek fishing, and so his love for the ocean is deeply entrenched.

As a young girl, Karen spent a lot of time outdoors, camping in the African Bush, hiking and generally growing up as a tomboy! Karen will most likely be your first point of contact.

We have 2 little children, Jordan and Adam.

Dive Master-guide: Brandon, 27 was born  in Cape Town and since his young years has been fascinated by the sea and all that comes with it. He took up surfing at a young age and loves the sport today. Brandon worked with us for the season of 2004-2006 after showing keen interest in Great Whites.  He then took up a position at a island resort in Mozambique, and has  joined us again as dive master and guide.

Crew and transfer manager Wellington, 36 has been with us for 3 yrs. He is the main man with handling the sharks, he has done his first aid training and is a licensed SATOUR guide. He also manages our transfers for guests wanting a pick up.

Booking Agent: Tamsyn, 20 is our bookings agent. She has recently completed her Diploma in International Travel. You will be corresponding with her when booking your shark trip and she will also be meeting you in the shop to process your payments after your trip.

Sheeren Lasker is one of our new booking agent. She is a vibey gal, with a quick sense of humour. She will be assisting us in our "Shark Shop" in Simonstown. You can book your AIRJAWS great white shark trip through her. She enjoys the outdoor live and has always been fascinated by the ocean and wild life and like interaction with people.

Sheona 22, grew up in Cape Town and spent a lot of her childhood on the beach at Langebaan loving the sea and everything in it. She became interested in Great Whites specifically when witnessing a shark attack on a good friend in 2003, during which he lost a leg. This led me her to study a BSc in marine biology and zoology, which she completed last year. She is  currently studying my BSc Honours in Botany and spends as much time as possible on the beach.

We hope you will join us on one of our trips and in sharing our love for the magnificent great white shark, and take away a deeper respect for this Apex Predator.
