See the growing Boulders Penguin Colony when you come to Cape Town
Boulders Beach is home to the huge colony of penguins, known as the Boulders Penguin Colony. African penguins used to be called “Jackass penguins” due to the donkey-like sounds they make when on land.
The fascinating Boulders Penguin Colony started in the 1980’s when a few penguins decided to settle at Boulders beach. The colony grew quickly and a recent estimation shows that the colony is made up of just over 3000 penguins.
“The only place on earth where humans and penguins share the same beach and sea”
When you come and see the penguins you will also be able to spend the day on the sheltered beaches that are safe and fun for children. Watch these African penguins “fly” through the South African waters with their quick bodies and wings.
Although you and your children will be amazed by the penguin’s antics, the residents of Simonstown are not always pleased as the penguins are known to find their way into the gardens and meddle with the shrubbery.
The Boulders Penguins love for the False Bay area is thanks to the good fishing available since commercial open fishing has been banned.
When you go and see the penguins, take a stroll down Boulders Beach and spend a couple of hours in the historical Simonstown.
