Shark cage diving is best experienced with scuba

By | March 5th, 2013|Tour Happening's|

Shark Cage Diving. African Shark Eco-Charters What makes shark cage diving with African Shark Eco-Charters different? Well, lots of things, but the actual shark cage diving on our boat, the Blue Pointer, is what sets us firmly apart. In the past few weeks I cannot help but notice how many guests have mentioned to me while out on a trip how awesome it is that we offer our shark cage diving with scuba regulators on our trips.  Guests keep revealing to me, especially after they dive, how they can’t imagine as incredible of an adventure if you have to breath hold while in the cage. I couldn't agree more! I’m not a great breath holder(I think I turn blue after about 15 seconds!) and I don’t see how one can thoroughly enjoy the full experience of being underwater with the ocean’s greatest predator when you have to worry about getting [...]

By | December 28th, 2012|Tour Happening's|

Shark cage diving with African Shark Eco-Charters   We are excited to welcome our newest member, Zaakiyah, to the African Shark Eco-Charters family. Recently, Zaakiyah got to experience her first-ever encounter with the Great White Sharks on a shark cage diving trip in Gansbaai. We asked her to mention a little bit about her shark cage diving experience. Here is what she had to say:   "It was a beautiful summer morning when I left Cape Town for Gansbaai to experience my first shark cage diving experience. It took us just under 3 hours to arrive in Gansbaai. It was a beautiful scenic drive and once again I felt privileged to be a South African but mostly, Capetonian. I was calm and relaxed until I arrived at the Kleinbaai Harbour. When we all gathered the excitement started as I realized there was no turning around. The pre–trip talk [...]

There are three shark cage diving "hot spots" for viewing the Great White Sharks in South Africa. These shark cage diving "hotspots" include Seal Island in Mossel Bay, Dyer Island and Geyser Rock near Gansbaai, and the infamous Seal Island in False Bay, which is also home to the “flying” Great White Sharks. Our shark cage diving trips depart from Simon's Town pier, which is only roughly 40 minutes from Cape Town, and it is a short 20-25 minute boat ride to Seal Island, False Bay. A full safety briefing and overview of the trip is given before each shark cage diving trip. Our morning shark cage diving trips depart for Seal [...]

Here are a few things to consider when choosing a reputable shark cage diving operator: Choose a shark cage diving company who is committed to shark conservation and who provides accurate, quality information. I trust you have all had a great time this past season enjoying our blogs, and im sure some of you had great times with us on our shark cage diving and breaching trips. It has been a mixed up season with some lengthy gaps of no sharks. Here is run down on how I saw the season for 2012: Our shark cage diving trips commenced this year in February,  and since I have been with African Shark Eco Charters, we have never missed a day in Feb for the past 3 seasons with regards to sightings. We had a great month with great white shark numbers varying from 1 all the way up to 8 or 9 on some trips. By | October 4th, 2012|Tour Happening's|

Great White Fascination Leaving Simons Town harbour on the way shark cage diving. Seal Island False Bay My first season with African Shark Eco Charters has been a whirlwind of dramatic hunting sequences, teeth, claws, flying sharks, chewed decoys and excited tourists.  The 2012 great white shark season has been action packed and I have loved and appreciated every moment of it. Last week on the Blue Pointer 2 a guest told me she was surprised to find that the crew members were as thrilled as the tourists were about seeing great white sharks.  She couldn’t believe we were so enthusiastic when we see the sharks every day... surely we get used to it and it gets old??  I can honestly say that the excitement never wears off. No matter how many times I have seen these unique predators, every day is different and extraordinary. What’s important to [...]
