Crazy Airjaws and flying sharks show their stuff

By | April 8th, 2014|Tour Happening's|

So, to all you African Shark Eco Charters fans and Great white shark enthusiasts, it's almost that time of year again when we start to see some crazy Airjaws and flying sharks! On Monday ‎the 7th of April we started off the day with a bang... just off the southern side of Seal Island in False Bay we came across a huge pod of about a thousand Common Dolphin which was quite a treat. Its the same pod of Common Dolphin that we have been seeing over the past few weeks around Seal Island. They seem to be here in False Bay due to the large number of bait fish (Sardines) that are swimming in the warm waters. After the Common Dolphin we continued on towards Seal Island. When we arrived our skipper Rob Lawrence said that the conditions were perfect to tow our little decoy seal also known as [...]

Shark Cage Diving – Breathtaking, but not scary!

By | February 19th, 2014|Tour Happening's|

Shark cage diving with African Shark Eco-Charters   Shark cage diving with African Shark Eco-Charters - “Breathtaking, but not scary!” Reviewed 17 February 2014 "An unforgettable experience. From start to end, the trip was amazing. The office staff was incredibly helpful in communicating frequently about our trip (weather was touch-and-go, so the decision to green-light the trip was made the previous day) and responding to 7pm text messages asking for directions to the pier. The dive itself was spectacular. It is an early start, but not bad if you're in Cape Town, and the trip out to Seal Island takes only 30 minutes. From there you do a quick loop around the island, then set up in an optimal position for shark viewing. You start by viewing the sharks from the surface while the crew works bait and a seal decoy to get sharks closer to the cage. [...]

Shark Cage Diving Trip Report – 29 January 2014

By | January 29th, 2014|Tour Happening's|

Shark cage diving with African Shark Eco-Charters African Shark Eco-Charters is pleased to announce that the 2014 Great White Shark season has officially opened in False Bay, and we ran our first official shark cage diving trip of the season today. Even though we had good shark activity on our "test run" out to Seal Island last week Thursday, we were still not too sure what to expect for out trip today as it is still so early in the season, but we were extremely hopeful. We had a small group of guests on board with us this morning and even though they were aware that sightings could not be guaranteed, they were all willing to give it a go and were hoping to get a glimpse of our ocean's most feared, yet misunderstood predator. But it all worked out very well in the end and our clients left us feeling very ecstatic [...]

African Shark Eco-Charters: Great White Shark trip update from dive master, Gary

By | September 30th, 2013|Tour Happening's|

And so as the month of September creeps ever closer to the end, so does the Great White Shark cage diving industry in False Bay until next season. So far the month of September hasn't fail to present us at African Shark Eco-Charters, with a number of great whites as of yet which gives us hope that this great white shark cage diving season will continue still for a little while longer. There have been some great white sharks spotted on the inside closer to shore recently.  On the Great White Shark trip on Saturday the 14th of September there were six divers of which two were local guys, were diving the Clan Stewart ship wreck just outside of Simons Town where shortly after descending on the wreck they saw a 4m great white shark. The great white investigated the divers for around a minute and then moved off.... when [...]

Shark cage diving with African Shark Eco-Charters – “Not even Speilberg could have written a better script”

By | September 16th, 2013|Tour Happening's|

Shark cage diving with African Shark Eco-Charters - “Not even Speilberg could have written a better script” "So I contacted ASEC before my travels to SA they organized transfers from my friends house contacted me the day before to confirm the trip was going ahead. I was picked up nice and early with some other potential bait and we were taken down to Simons town. We were quickly introduced to everyone and boarded the boat. The vessel was very well maintained clean with a small change room and head it was a very nice boat. We were informed the day before to expect some choppy weather. We were taken straight out to Seal Island and managed to view 3 kills by sharks on seals they were explosive and fast. We had a shark attack our decoy seal. All through the morning the weather kept picking up and we had 3-4 [...]

African Shark Eco-Charters – “Excellent Performance”

By | August 27th, 2013|Tour Happening's|

African Shark Eco-Charters - "Excellent Performance" Aug 17, 2013  A TripAdvisor Member " In July 2013 I made with some of the so-called Air Jaws Morning trips. Highly Recommended! After a nice welcome at the pier and a briefing by the crew, it went off. All questions were answered by knowledgeable and friendly team in connection with the tour or generally appeared with the great white sharks. Especially Rob, the owner of the company and skipper of the boat, one notes that he has an incredible experience and knowledge of sharks and, more importantly, has a great passion for these animals. The whole package is easy. From the initial booking via the Internet and on-site support (thanks Tamsyn!) To carry out the tour and the support provided by Rob and his crew was all to my complete satisfaction! My vacation plans for 2014 and run African Shark Eco Charters [...]

Shark cage diving is best experienced with scuba

By | March 5th, 2013|Tour Happening's|

Shark Cage Diving. African Shark Eco-Charters What makes shark cage diving with African Shark Eco-Charters different? Well, lots of things, but the actual shark cage diving on our boat, the Blue Pointer, is what sets us firmly apart. In the past few weeks I cannot help but notice how many guests have mentioned to me while out on a trip how awesome it is that we offer our shark cage diving with scuba regulators on our trips.  Guests keep revealing to me, especially after they dive, how they can’t imagine as incredible of an adventure if you have to breath hold while in the cage. I couldn't agree more! I’m not a great breath holder(I think I turn blue after about 15 seconds!) and I don’t see how one can thoroughly enjoy the full experience of being underwater with the ocean’s greatest predator when you have to worry about getting [...]

Zaakiyah’s first shark cage diving trip

By | December 28th, 2012|Tour Happening's|

Shark cage diving with African Shark Eco-Charters   We are excited to welcome our newest member, Zaakiyah, to the African Shark Eco-Charters family. Recently, Zaakiyah got to experience her first-ever encounter with the Great White Sharks on a shark cage diving trip in Gansbaai. We asked her to mention a little bit about her shark cage diving experience. Here is what she had to say:   "It was a beautiful summer morning when I left Cape Town for Gansbaai to experience my first shark cage diving experience. It took us just under 3 hours to arrive in Gansbaai. It was a beautiful scenic drive and once again I felt privileged to be a South African but mostly, Capetonian. I was calm and relaxed until I arrived at the Kleinbaai Harbour. When we all gathered the excitement started as I realized there was no turning around. The pre–trip talk [...]

Shark Cage Diving – Taking The Plunge

By | November 12th, 2012|Tour Happening's|

Shark cage diving with African Shark Eco-Charters Shark cage diving is an amazing way to experience being with the Great White Shark, and allows you to get up close and personal with these amazing apex predators. There are three shark cage diving "hot spots" for viewing the Great White Sharks in South Africa. These shark cage diving "hotspots" include Seal Island in Mossel Bay, Dyer Island and Geyser Rock near Gansbaai, and the infamous Seal Island in False Bay, which is also home to the “flying” Great White Sharks. Our shark cage diving trips depart from Simon's Town pier, which is only roughly 40 minutes from Cape Town, and it is a short 20-25 minute boat ride to Seal Island, False Bay. A full safety briefing and overview of the trip is given before each shark cage diving trip. Our morning shark cage diving trips depart for Seal [...]
