African Shark Eco-Charters – And The High Season Begins!

By | May 14th, 2014|Tour Happening's|

May 12th A spectacular start to the official high season for African Shark Eco charters, with Tuesday being the first day back at sea after the storm. Obviously storms make great white sharks happy!!! Or else someone passed on the message that we were waiting for them to become active? Either way, I’m grateful! An early start out of the Simon's Town harbour led to us towing our seal decoy past Seal Island as the sun rose. Almost immediately Rob spotted a surface predation. Racing over to the area we caught the last part of the seals demise, complete with several birds eating on the seals intestines. Ok, yes not everyone’s ideal wake-up call I can admit...but just imagine its spaghetti?! So now we definitely know the sharks are active today, so back to towing our decoy. Then, boom!! What a hit! A complete, powerful, entire body out of the [...]

Incredibly sad pictures taken by Adam Baugh of a juvenile female Great White Shark who had her fins brutally hacked off by some locals in Mozambique on Monday, the 28th of January. It is always disturbing to see and hear of such cruel and horrifying acts, and just goes to prove that education is now more vital than ever. Please share this message and help in the battle to save our Great White Sharks!! Juvenile Great White Shark caught by locals in Mozambique Adam Baugh watches helplessly from the sideline Incredibly brutal! Magical False Bay: Home of the “flying” (breaching) Great White Shark

By | January 9th, 2013|Tour Happening's|

Seal Island, False Bay is home to the "flying" (breaching) Great White Sharks, and offers the unique opportunity to witness natural predations of Great White Sharks on Cape Fur Seals. What make False Bay so special is that this behaviour can be seen  more frequently here than any other shark spot in the world. False Bay is home to an abundance of marine life, and on many of our trips you will get to see Southern Right Whales, varying-sized schools of Dolphins, thousands of penguins and you can witness over 64 000 seals on Seal Island. We also see pelagic birds on some of our trips. Take a look at the video below to catch a glimpse of the magic of False Bay and what it has to offer.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugFaN8xC6wk&feature=g-all-lik   Our ultimate “AIRJAWS” trip is the most popular trip that African Shark Eco-Charters has to offer, and [...]

Great White Shark breaching – “Great trip, can’t wait to go back!”

By | December 31st, 2012|Tour Happening's|

“Great trip, can't wait to go back!” "We went in May and had a couple of reschedules due to weather. Make sure you plan your trip put there early on your vacation so that you have time to reschedule if needs be. Rob and crew were amazing and very accommodating. We got into the sharks in about 45 minutes and had them around for about 20-30 min. Water was a little cold, but not too bad. On the way back saw lots of dolphins and a whale. Oh yeah, if the smell of seal crap bothers you, you might want to bring nose plugs. Overall the trip was amazing, just saving up to go back." http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g319718-d1887135-r148182787-African_Shark_Eco_Charters-Simon_s_Town_Western_Cape.html#REVIEWS Breaching Great White Shark clears the air at Seal Island, False Bay Join us on one of our “Airjaws” shark breaching trips to witness this spectacular breaching behaviour of the Great White [...]

Great White Shark breaching – beyond my wildest dreams

By | December 24th, 2012|Tour Happening's|

“Beyond my Wildest Dreams” We went out with ASEC for an AIRJAWS dive in mid-June and it was absolutely the highlight of our 3 week trip in South Africa. Captain Rob and his crew are passionate, enthusiastic and highly knowledgeable about the Great Whites and they will do everything in their powers to ensure the best possible experience for your dive trip. Weather can be a problem in False Bay and cause trip cancelations, so I would suggest scheduling your dive trip early on in your stay so if necessary, you could go another day. Two days before our scheduled trip I got an email letting us know the conditions were not looking good for our trip and ASEC would know for sure the following day. The next day I got a call from Tamsyn who works in the office and our trip was in fact canceled. She went over [...]

AIRJAWS: “Flying” (breaching) Great White Sharks of South Africa

By | November 28th, 2012|Tour Happening's|

“Flying” Great Whites of False Bay Airjaws 1 and 2 is the most successful shark show ever made by Discovery Channel, and it concentrates on the “flying”  (breaching) great white sharks of Seal Island, False Bay, South Africa. The boat it was filmed on was the ‘Blue Pointer”, operated by Rob Lawrence of African Shark Eco-Charters. According to Rodney Fox, Peter Benchley and Rocky Strong, as well as the whole National Geographic film crew who were out with us in 1999, they believe it to be the best place on the planet to see natural predator-prey interaction as well as other unique behaviours such as Great White Shark breaching. Rob helped produce and starred in “Air Jaws”. Since then the Discovery Channel has completed filming on “Air Jaws II” with him, and African Shark Eco-Charters has facilitating several international film crews every year including the Discovery Channel, the BBC [...]
